A civil lawsuit has been brought by Canadian lumber manufacturers against a regional district and the city of Kamloops for failing to protect their mills during last summer’s wildfires.

Companies including Slocan Forest Products blame the Thompson-Nicola Regional District and Kamloops for fire damage to their mills.

However, the move is being seen as a formality as the companies have already received insurance compensation.

Insurance companies are believed to have initiated the action to meet a deadline, as lawsuits can only be brought against a municipality or regional district within six months of the event.
