One of the latest innovations to hit the camping world is relying on Tanalith E treated timber to ensure long-term protection.

Timber pods made by North Yorshire Timber are helping campsite owners bring in revenue for under-used parts of their sites which aren’t suitable for tents and caravans.

The pods, already established on sites as far afield as the Isle of Sky and Bodmin, have been growing in use. North Yorkshire Timber secured a manufacturing and licensing agreement with the pod creators, Newfoundland Lodges, and delivered its first pod in early May.

Decking and foundations of each pod are made from Tanalith E, while internal and other external timbers are untreated, apart from a coating of Osmo Polyx Oil on the latter.

Roofs are covered with Decra Oberon galvanized steel tiles, consisting of a number of weatherproofed tiles attached to the internal frame.

The pods have developed a loyal following among campers who have come to be known as “serial podders”.
