News that a former Sotico mill site and its surrounding areas at Pemberton are contaminated with materials including arsenic and chromium has raised fears about possible pollution at other mills in Western Australia.
The government’s department of environment has confirmed that contamination was discovered, prompting Liberal member Paul Omodei to call for more sites to be examined.
He said it is unacceptable that contaminated sites are close to population areas and that they need to cleaned up.
