The British Woodworking Federation (BWF) is almost halfway to achieving its 2004 target of 100 Approved Fire Door Centres.
The scheme has been buoyed by the addition of 15 Howarth Timber branches, after the company put 52 of its staff through the BWF-Certifire Fire Door & Doorset Scheme training programme.
Others recently joining include Alsford Timber‘s Eastbourne branch, which joins 16 of the company’s other branches that qualified last year, while eight staff from Clapham-based T Brewer & Co Ltd are signed up for training shortly. Further merchants are currently discussing training for their staff.
Samila Kularatne, product manager of the BWF Certifire Fire Door & Doorset Scheme, said: “Enquiries are coming in at an increasing rate. We are finding that even people who have been in the trade for some time are discovering there is much more to learn about fire doors and their installation than they had ever realised.”
She said the training programme had been refined to take just half a day, so staff could return to their branches earlier.
