The British Woodworking Federation (BWF) aims to build on its 2001 achievements with new initiatives this year, a record attendance heard at its annual Members’ Day.
The event attracted 145 people, 10% up on last year, from joinery firms of all sizes.
New initiatives include the imminent launch of the BWF’s Code of Conduct, designed to provide specifiers, end-users and their suppliers with greater confidence in joinery products. Also, BWF-approved fire door centres will be set up, selling only products covered by the Certifire scheme.
Afterwards, BWF director Kevin Cubbage said: ‘Six years ago timber windows were dead in the water. Everybody appeared to be against them and the industry was doing very badly. But we have things going for us now.’
However he warned: ‘We must never be complacent. We have to work very hard to make sure we do not fall back as in the 1980s and 90s, both as an industry and as an association.’
A presentation was made to Mr Cubbage who retires in May. He will be succeeded by Richard Lambert.
