After more than six years at Finnforest, working on its environmental certification systems, Rachel Butler has joined ProForest, the company that runs CPET on behalf of Defra.

Ms Butler, joined the company as associate director on August 1 and will officially take over from the current CPET co-ordinator, Kate Bottriell, on September 1. Ms Bottriell is staying with ProForest, but moving to work on its expanding biofuels side.

Ms Butler will be taking on the CPET role as the whole issue of Category B implementation starts to build and her experience within the timber industry will give a strong boost at this critical point. She will be also be supporting and growing ProForest’s work within the timber and retail trades; responsible purchasing, supply chain management and working with suppliers.

“Initially, I will be spending a lot of time within the construction sector, while also working with the timber trade as we all recognise that there are a large number of issues to address,” she said.

CPET is running a consultation on the government’s new procurement policy. This requires all timber to be either certified or FLEGT licensed after 2009; further details can be found at www.proforest.net.

The key contacts for CPET within ProForest are now Rachel Butler and Sofie Tind Nielsen, who can both be contacted on cpet@proforest.net or on the CPET Helpline, tel: 01865 243766
