Burmese media sources have reported timber organisations as saying that legality certificates are two years away from becoming a reality.
At the same time, the country’s government is calling on timber exporters to take the necessary action to meet the EU legality requirements.
The US and western European countries have recently lifted the ban on Burmese timber because of the country’s move towards democracy.
