Timber products manufacturer Richard Burbidge Ltd has celebrated the 40th anniversary of its Oswestry factory.

The £65m turnover company, whose history dates back to 1867, opened the factory back in January 1965, when the manager was today’s chairman and chief executive Richard Burbidge.

The factory originally produced a variety of general wood products, such as beech floor panels for the Vauxhall plant at Ellesmere Port and recorders for schools. It now makes a wide range of decorative timber products which are sold in DIY retailers and builders merchants, as well as being exported to Europe and the US.

Richard Burbidge said: “The growth of the company over the past 40 years really reflects the growth of home ownership and the tremendous interest in DIY and home improvement.”
