Decorative timber products manufacturer Richard Burbidge Ltd has snapped up four product ranges from Woodpax.

The deal, for an undisclosed sum, secures Burbidge the rights to Woodpax decking, decorative mouldings, premium stripwoods and pine board ranges. It also gives Burbidge 175 independent in-store merchandisers.

The closure of East Sussex-based Woodpax was announced in May (TTJ May 19) by parent company Stora Enso Timber UK. Once it closes and supplies run out, customers will be offered Burbidge’s own similar product ranges.

The deal follows Burbidge’s acquisition of West’s Dowels and Mouldings, providing further consolidation in the decorative timber products market

Chief executive Richard Burbidge said: ‘This is a useful bolt-on acquisition which fits easily into our existing manufacturing and distribution systems. We are already strong in decorative mouldings and decking and we have had small positions in both stripwoods and pine boards for more than 10 years so the Woodpax additions will boost volumes in these areas.’

  • Richard Burbidge’s brand recognition has risen to record levels on the back of the company’s £500,000 advertising campaign launched earlier this year.

Independent research revealed 15% of the target audience of ABC1 women aged 25 to 64 had seen the company’s home interest magazine adverts, of which 92% associated the advert with Richard Burbidge.
