It also told TTJ that it did not view “properly constructed” timber framed buildings as a particular fire risk.
The article in the magazine’s December 1 edition was about the July blaze at two part-built north London timber frame apartment blocks.
It was described as based on an exclusive conversation with the London Fire Brigade (LFB) about the “inherent dangers in multi-storey timber frame sites”.
However, the story was written before fire investigators released their report and the LFEPA, which runs the LFB, told TTJ that it considered it “somewhat regrettable that the [Building] article took what might be considered a sensational approach”.
“For the record, the LFEPA’s view is that properly constructed, well-maintained timber framed buildings will perform entirely adequately in a fire and meet all of the functional requirements of the Building Regulations,” said a LFEPA spokesperson.
The UK Timber Frame Association has met the LFEPA and Health & Safety Executive to review all aspects of the Colindale fire.
