The builder started using the 225i I-joist as it wanted to use a material that would provide less shrinkage and twist than traditional solid timber joists.

“Because of the uniformity [of the I-joists], we save time on site as we don’t have to sort through defective pieces,” said Galower site manager Olly Slack.

“There’s a slightly higher unit cost, but it’s offset by the build speed and floor performance.”

By the autumn, it had used the product on five housing units, including single-storey, two-storey, detached and semi-detached houses.
