BSW Timber has launched a timber training course designed to improve its customers’ knowledge of timber while offering them a qualification approved by the Institute of Wood Science (IWSc).

First held in September, 26 people have already successfully completed the day-long course and subsequent test; further sessions will be held once a month at BSW facilities and other locations around the UK. Delivered by IWSc past president Jim Coulson, the training includes coverage of the properties of hardwoods and softwoods, as well as of the effects on timber of different processes such as planing, timber treatment and strength grading.

BSW Timber marketing manager Bryan Crennell commented: “It’s been very well received by our customers. Investment in training is a key part in the retention of staff within the merchant sector.”
