BSW Timber Systems is tapping into the growing market for energy efficient timber framed homes by establishing a joint venture with Canadian Super E home manufacturer Alouette Homes.

The partnership, which comes into force on April 1, will see the creation of a new company BSW Alouette Timber Systems, based at BSW’s site in Ramsgate.

Existing co-operation between the two companies has already resulted in a £3.3m contract to supply 147 houses in the first phase of a 1,100-unit development for Berkeley Homes in Holborough Valley, Kent – the UK’s largest Super E project.

Around 100 Super E units have already been completed at Holborough, with Berkeley having sold more than 40 of them in the past few weeks.

BSW is supplying roof trusses and floor systems while Alouette is shipping its panelised walls, complete with windows, insulation and vapour barriers installed, to the UK.

Alouette said it recognised that transporting bulky roof trusses and floor systems from Canada was not cost-effective.

BSW Alouette managing director Norman Gore said the joint venture would have a positive impact for both businesses and benefit the UK’s building industry.

Nigel Tomsett, Berkeley Homes South East London, said: “This [Holborough Valley] presents the ideal opportunity to work with BSW Alouette to take home building to a new level, offering superb environmental performance at affordable end prices to the consumer. This is the shape of things to come.”
