A programme has been announced for the International Conference on Carbon Storage in Wood Products.

The September 1 event in Brussels will cover the science on how much carbon is stored in wood products, as well as how a carbon credit system could be set up (based on the scientific evidence) in a way that can benefit the woodworking industries.

Speakers include Ludovic Guinard, of French wood industry technology centre FCBA, who will over the effectiveness and feasibility of attributing an economic value to the carbon stored in wood products.

Dra Ana Claudia Dias of Aveiro University will discuss methods and approaches for estimating carbon storage.

CEI-BOIS chairman Mikael Eliasson will draw together the conclusions from the event.

The conference is part of the “wood in sustainable development” process of CEI-Bois’ Roadmap 2010, run by the European Panel Federation and the European Organisation of the Sawmill Industry.
