Scottish timber window supplier Broxwood is supplying nearly 2,500 windows for a Manchester residential development in a contract worth £1.1m.

Perth-based Broxwood, which imports products from Scandinavia, is supplying the windows for separate phases of a £150m development in the New East Manchester Regeneration Zone.

The company has already supplied nearly 1,000 windows for two blocks of 177 apartments in the Upper Eastside Valley and 606 units for a block of 104 apartments in the Lower Eastside Valley. It is currently delivering a further 829 windows for the next two phases of the project.

The close proximity of some apartments to main roads led Broxwood to team up with Bradford-based acoustic specialists Rod Lane Associates. They developed a window to meet sound regulations, incorporating acoustic glazing, an acoustic coating and a wider than average gap between glazing sheets.

Rod Lane, of Rod Lane Associates, said: “This kind of heavy construction is normally something we would specify for an industrial situation, which gives some idea of the challenges we faced.”

The use of the window will provide a model for other acoustically difficult locations throughout the site, being developed by Artisan and Artisan Ship Canal Developments.

Broxwood’s windows are top swing fully-reversible units with argon-filled double glazing. The company is also supplying sliding patio doors and French balcony doors.
