A Swedish sports goods multi-millionaire who owns 400,000 acres of rainforest in Brazil has been appointed a green envoy by prime minister Gordon Brown.
John Eliasch, who has a £355m fortune according to the Sunday Times Rich List, will advise Mr Brown on deforestation and green energy.
Mr Eliasch bought his large swathe of rainforest in the Amazon last year for environmental reasons.
He said he was looking forward to making a real difference in UK domestic and global policy.
The prime minister has made a number of special appointments over recent months concerning forestry. Barry Gardiner MP was given the role of special representative on forestry during the summer.
