Board storage capacity has more than doubled at Cheshire-based Broadstock Office Furniture Ltd with the acquisition of a Sidetracker multi-direction reach truck and a cantilever racking system.
Board was previously stacked on the factory floor and only 24 packs could be stored at a time. Using a standard counterbalance lift truck, accessing required material could take two people half an hour.
With the installation of 6m-high cantilever racking, 62 packs can now be stored in a logical system with easy access. The company can also now order bigger quantities and obtain better prices from suppliers.
The material, which measures up to 2.8×2.1m, is handled by a battery-powered three-wheel Sidetracker with two drive wheels, providing accurate steering while retaining the compact size and manoeuvrability needed for the Broadstock factory.
As the truck has no electronic equipment, it can also unload incoming deliveries in the factory yard with a high degree of reliability.
