The largest shipment of timber to be handled at the Port of Cardiff in more than a decade has been discharged from the mv Sea Trader.

A cargo of 6,000m3 of sawn timber was shipped from the Baltic states for South Wales-based Britton Timber, which supplies to the UK construction industry from its sole distribution depot at the port. The wood was discharged via the stern ramp, rather than the normal quayside cranes due to the large volume of cargo.

Clive Thomas, deputy port manager at Associated British Ports (ABP) South Wales Ports, said: “This bumper shipment proves that ABP Cardiff has the ability to handle large volumes of cargo, in whatever form and from whichever type of vessel our customers decide to bring their goods into the port.”
