The southern interior proved to be a hotspot in a British Columbia government initiative to ensure that logging truckers comply with regulations on transportation and timber marking rules.

More than half of all enforcement actions taken by the ministry of forests and range were handed out in the region.

Around 20% of trucks stopped in the southern interior were served with some sort of enforcement action, compared to an average 12% across British Columbia.

However, overall about 80% of trucks inspected at more than 150 locations province-wide complied with marking and transportation requirements.

The government said that the initiative was aimed at cracking down on timber theft as well as ensuring compliance with forestry regulations.
