Archaeologists have discovered that an oak door at Westminster Abbey is more than 900 years old – making it the oldest in Britain.

A three-month £3,800 research project funded by English Heritage revealed the internal door was probably put in place during the 1050s.

The door, made from one tree, has five panels and is 6.5ft high by 4ft wide. Rings in the wood suggest the tree grew between AD 924 and 1030.
