Dr Peter Bonfield, managing director of BRE‘s construction division and also responsible for construction products used in the London 2012 Olympics through his role at the Olympic Delivery Authority, becomes new BRE chief executive.

Former chief executive Martin Wyatt and members of the BRE board are forming a new holding company to oversee the strategic expansion and development of the group as a whole.

BRE, which is celebrating its 10th year of operating in the private sector, said the new appointment marks a “step change” in its development.

“I am delighted to take up this appointment at a time when our industry is in a period of rapid and unprecedented change – for instance there is an urgent and vital need to reduce the carbon footprint of our new and existing buildings and we must also address the way the industry contributes to our society and the economy as a whole,” said Dr Bonfield.

Dr Bonfield, also a former director of timber technology at BRE, has been on part-time secondment to the ODA for the past 10 months, where he has helped create the sustainable development strategy for the Olympics.
