More trees could be planted on Scottish farmland with a Scottish Executive decision to allow farmers who plant trees to retain CAP payments.

Farmers who plant new woodlands through the Scottish Forestry Grants Scheme will be able to ask for their entitlements under the CAP Single Farm Payment Scheme to be concentrated on their remaining agricultural land during the period from 2003 to the 2005-06 planting season.

Farmers who use this provision will still be able to apply for grants under the Scottish Forestry Grants Scheme and for Farmland Premium payments.
