The decision by Boise Cascade Corporation to sell its paper, forest products and timberland assets has been welcomed by its UK arm as “exciting news”.
Upper Heyford-based Boise Building Products said its US parent’s sale of timber and paper assets for US$3.2bn would not affect its trading name or operation as a supplier of engineered wood products.
Simon Jones, sales director of Boise Building Products, said the change means senior US management will become wholly focused upon the company’s value-added forest products.
He added: “Confidence is high at our Heyford operation. We are enjoying excellent relationships with our customers throughout the UK and our ambition to become the market leader in the UK is well on its way with our innovative products and approach.”
Boise Cascade’s restructuring will see its timber and paper assets sold to a new company, to be called Boise Cascade LLC. The rest of the company will be renamed Office Max, the Cleveland-based firm it acquired last summer.
The change, which has to be cleared by regulators in the US and Brazil, will transform the company from a predominantly manufacturing-based firm to a worldwide distributor of office products.
