An independent, third-party audit has certified Boise Building Products’ north-west US fibre procurement operations as conforming to Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) standards.

The audit, performed by PricewaterhouseCoopers, also recertified Boise’s forest management practices on more than 300,000 acres of timberland in western Oregon as complying with SFI standards.

Boise, which is a founding member of the SFI programme, conducts certification audits every three to five years.

Meanwhile, Boise Building Products has become the first major forest products company to create an environmental statement for its operations and extend that policy to its suppliers.

The statement, which will help protect endangered forest areas throughout the world and old-growth forests in the US, was developed with help from groups including Rainforest Action Network, American Lands Alliance, and the National Forest Protection Alliance.
