BM TRADA Certification has agreed a deal with the Canadian Lumber Standards Accreditation Board (CLSAB) that allows mills to CE mark strength-graded timber bound for Europe.

CLSAB-governed lumber mills will be able to apply the mark to their lumber after an audit by a CLSAB grading agency, and follow members of Certiwood, the Canadian Plywood Association, in being able to carry the mark.

“Mills will require a Factory Protection Control Certificate of Conformity from a notified body, such as BM TRADA, to be able to supply the CE mark,” said Mark Wilkinson, BM TRADA product certification manager.

“The venture is now underway and BM TRADA will issue the required certificates on the basis of continuous assessments of CLSAB and a programme of joint inspections with the grading agencies.”

The move comes after the new European Standard EN 1408-1-1 did not cite the Canadian Grading Standard, despite it being accepted in the UK under British Standard 4978.
