BM TRADA Certification Ltd has become the second company in the country to hold all five UKAS accreditation categories – quality, environment, product, personnel and – most recently – BS 7799 information security management systems (ISMS).

And BM TRADA can also claim to be among just 10 out of 116 UK certification bodies to have achieved ISMS which enables companies to manage and protect data handled and used.

BM TRADA managing director Hugh Taylor said all organisations should have secure, reliable management systems in place, particularly those using electronic media and on-line transactions.

BS 7799, which can be applied to any information or data, can help firms comply with the Data Protection Act. And with government already pushing all public organisations and local authorities to look at information security issues, third party certification could become a requirement in the future.
