R Plevin & Sons, which is developing the 50-acre super-site at Hazlehead, south Yorkshire, said work was progressing on schedule, ready for the start of an exclusive 25-year contract to supply the new E.ON biomass power plant at Blackburn Meadows in Sheffield next spring.

The Hazlehead site, which is costing £5m, will create 20 jobs and process up to 150,000 tonnes of waste wood a year.

"We’re pleased to see work progressing on schedule at Hazlehead," said managing director Jamie Plevin. "We have a great response to the start of our recruitment drive and have already hire three new members of staff, two machine drivers and a load inspector, who will prove integral to the site’s success."

As well as processing biomass fuel, Plevin manufactures wood-based products, including materials for the panel board industry and animal bedding.
