The number of non-domestic biomass heating boilers in England has jumped from 455 to almost 2,000 since 2008, according to a new Forestry Commission survey.
Yorkshire and the Humber region has the most biomass heat boilers with 290 installations. The region’s boilers are also some of the most powerful in the country, capable of generating 25% of England’s total biomass boiler heat.
The Forestry Commission is supporting the use of biomass through it woodfuel strategy, which aims to develop this growing market.
“Woodfuel boilers are suitable for a whole range of larger, commercial and community buildings, and we want more people to consider this traditional fuel as a future energy-source,” said Angela Duignan, the commission’s head of woodfuel implementation.
The survey, based on the responses from 35 installers, was commissioned for the Forestry Commission by the Renewable Energy Association.
