Finland’s Biolan Group is constructing a new head office in the middle of forests in the Eura region and is making extensive use of PEFC-certified timber.
The recycling and gardening specialist started planning the building 10 years ago and is now on track to open it in October.
As well as promoting Biolan’s image, the building has contributed to product development. For example, Biolan’s owner and chairman Pekka Kariniemi wanted ‘aged’ glulam beams in the structure, and TimberHeart, the company responsible for the timber frame, is now considering rolling this out on a commercial basis.
The building will incorporate a number of sustainable technologies, including a closed-water circuit for flushing lavatories, geothermal heating and a reed-thatched roof.
