LDK Igirma Ltd is to have a 20MW boiler plant installed at its operations in the Irkutsk region of Russia, with two 10MW boilers generating heat for its sawmills’ dryer chambers and other heating services.

This is coupled with a €100m order from Bayernfolds BestEnergy1 GmbH & Co, which has asked Wärtsilä to install six turnkey biomass-fuelled power plants, each with an output of 5.6MW.

“Wärtsilä’s BioPower solutions are ideally suited for the European market, which is strongly committed to the use of renewables,” said Banmali Agrawala, vice-president of the firm’s biomass arm.

The Russian plants should be fully operational by the end of 2007, with the German developments set for completion in 18 months time.
