A Scottish timber company is set to expand after being featured on the Big Brother reality television programme.

Woodco Scotland, based in Caithness, built a 10,000ft2 house for the programme at the Channel 4 studios in just seven weeks.

The publicity has meant increased business for Woodco, which has tripled its staff numbers to 30 and is now seeking larger premises.

Managing director Bob Craine wants to keep the company in the area but is struggling with communications as the company now has customers all over Europe.

He has tried to resolve communications problems by moving loads by rail – but without noticeable success.

He said: “The government keeps banging on about its commitment to taking freight off the roads on to rail but the people who they have got in place to do that are hopeless.”
