Timber-using industries are being challenged to change their approach to environmental best practice and grasp the opportunity to reap a ‘green dividend’.

The challenge comes from the Timber Best Practice Programme, a joint venture between TRADA Technology’s Business Solutions Group and BRE, which is holding a series of workshops to show how businesses can improve by adopting environmental best practice. Other topics will include environmental legislation and responsibilities, the business case for sustainability and reducing the use of coatings and preservatives. Speakers will include representatives of BRE, TRADA and the Wood Recycling Association.

Stan Terry of TRADA’s Timber Recycling Information Centre said: ‘Millions of pounds worth of timber goes to landfill each year. Good waste management can save 1% of turnover fairly easily, which can mean up to 10% increase in profit.’
