Palgrave Brown‘s speedy delivery of roof trusses helped to cut labour costs by a third at the Glen Mill Group’s latest office development in Altham.

Palgrave Brown designed a bespoke solution for the large and unusual roof on Block A, the first phase of the development.

Chris Walmsley, branch manager at Palgrave Brown’s Rochdale site, said: “Taking into account the size of the roof and the pitch the client wanted, we had to introduce integrated glulam hip boards to cover the 10m spans.

Following approval of the design concept, the trusses were manufactured and delivered in just three weeks.

Trevor Shearon, contracts manager for the Glen Mill Group, said: “We wanted to have the trusses delivered early so they could be laid on site prior to installation. This meant we could crane the trusses up in our preferred order, rather than how they come off the delivery truck.”

This, he said, also saved time on site and the whole installation took just one day – cutting the joiners’ time by a third.
