Timber-based garden building specialist Bespace Urban Design says it is bucking the recession with its ‘cube’ products beating the recession.

The Birmingham-based company uses an all-timber structure comprising structural insulated panels (SIPs) which are wood-framed, OSB-skinned insulated cassettes. The finished building is clad in western red cedar and can be supplied with interior birch ply walls and wood or laminate flooring.

Launched just two years ago, the full design and build business has seen demand climb steadily and in January turned over £100,000. It believes 2009 will be its “strongest year yet”.

“We asked ourselves how we could be different, as anyone with the relevant experience can go out and build a garden construction,” said Mark Warburton, co-founder of Bespace with his brother Neil. “We knew we had to justify the design and cost of such a product through the bespoke service we provide and the green kudos the finished building has.”

He added that Bespace is well set to take advantage of the “improve not move” consumer trend. The company also sees sales potential with local authorities, particularly for school buildings.

“Sustainability is the key for schools as each project has to meet specific environmental criteria,” he said. “In addition, our buildings only take around two weeks to construct.”
