The building will have a partly cut-away section to show how the structure is put together. The remainder will be completed as a fully-furnished “Timber Home”.

W6, formerly Woodmex, is aiming to expand the audience for its exhibition, with architects and designers among the targeted visitors, as well as manufacturers and the timber supply and processing sector generally.

The Benfield house forms part of this diversification.

“It is very clear that W6 will provide a great showcase for timber frame building technology, especially given the presence of the machinery and joinery sectors,” said Kelvin Godhard of Bernfield ATT. “We are delighted to see one of our timber frame homes featuring in the event and I know that our architects has some brilliant ideas. We’re going to make it worth a visit.”

The house is also being promoted as a potential promotional oppportunity for other businesses, such as furniture and timber component manufacturers. They are being been invited to ‘sponsor’ the project to get their products featured in the building.

The “concept architectural design” for the house will be unveiled in June.
