British Columbia’s opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) wants to see money raised from the sale of beetle-infested timber remain in the north of the country.
The party is proposing a trust fund be set up to benefit northern communities instead of the cash going into government funds. It estimates C$20-50m could go into the fund.
The NDP is calling on the Liberal BC provincial government to enact legislation before the next election.
