Beesley & Fildes Ltd, the Liverpool-based builders/timber merchant and importer, has added a seventh branch to its business by buying the assets of J&J Fencing.

The acquisition of the Warrington-based builders merchant, which was owned by Cheshire Mouldings & Woodturnings Ltd, was worth in excess of £1m. The firm will now change its name to the Beesley branding.

Beesley & Fildes managing director John Beesley said J&J Fencing’s location was a factor in the purchase, as Warrington was rated as the largest town in the country. He described J&J Fencing as a successfully-owned family business.

He added: “We need to expand further east. We are also looking for further depots.”

In addition to merchanting and timber importing, Beesley & Fildes is also involved in specialist joinery work and timber milling. Its operations are at Huyton, Prescot, Liverpool, Birkenhead on Wirral, Chester and Prestatyn, Wales.

The company will have an annual turnover of £22-23m this year. Timber represents about 40% of its business.
