German sawmiller Pollmeier Massivholz GmbH has received more than 110 entries for its international Beech Design Award, which is promoting the versatility of the species.

Entries have come from around the world and include interior designs, gold-plated beds, furnishings, staircases and children’s toys.

With the tagline “one type of wood – one thousand possibilities”, the competition is open to anyone designing or manufacturing products in beech, which Pollmeier describes as the “chameleon of hardwoods”.

Categories include interior design, furniture and innovations/other products, with a top prize of €2,500. The competition closes on October 30, with an awards ceremony in November.
