About C$8m worth of sales were landed by British Columbian value-added wood product manufacturers attending Japan’s largest building products exhibition.

BC forests minister Pat Bell announced the figure while attending the event, the Japan Home Show.

Eleven BC companies and trade associations representing the value-added and primary sectors participated in the visit through the Canada Wood Group.

The Canadian pavilion was one of the largest among the 700 exhibitors at the show, which attracted 95,000 visitors.

“These efforts have a direct, bottom-line impact on sales and jobs in BC,” said Mr Bell. “We’re delivering an important message that BC’s forest sector can meet all of Japan’s diverse building needs – from design, structural lumber, interior decorating, flooring to cabinetry and finishing.”

Japan recently changed its building code to allow larger multi-unit structures to be constructed entirely from wood.
