Canada has hosted the XII World Forestry Congress in Québec City for the first time.

British Columbia’s forests minister Michael de Jong said the event would be used to showcase the sustainable forest management of the province. He added that hosting the congress presented the unique opportunity for BC to show the world it is not only meeting the standards for sustainable forestry, but is setting them too.

More than 4,000 forestry leaders from 120 countries were expected to attend the congress to develop recommendations about models and policies for sustainable forestry and how best to balance the economic and ecological uses of forests.
