Continuing energy and raw material cost increases have forced German chemicals giant BASF to increase its prices in Europe, Africa and western Asia.

The price hikes of €80-100 per tonne are for polymer dispersions and additives, while polymer powders are going up by €160 per tonne.

Products affected include polymers used for adhesives, binders for fibres, architectural coatings and construction chemicals.

BASF said the price hikes were necessary because energy and raw material cost increases were negatively impacting production and logistic costs.

Last August BASF raised prices for coatings resins in Europe by up to 15%.
