Scotline Terminal Goole Ltd has ceased trading and will go into liquidation because of £600,000 backdated port rates demands.

The stevedoring company was served a summons for immediate payment of £200,000 but was unable to pay it. Ten members of staff have been made redundant and liquidators are currently being appointed.

Peter Millatt, managing director of shipping line Scotline Ltd, which is unaffected by the closure, said the backdated rates demands had been a killer for the stevedoring company and lengthy legal efforts to fight it had been unsuccessful.

“This issue has been hanging over our heads for the two to three years and now it’s reached a conclusion,” said Mr Millatt. “The government does not give a damn about it.”

Mr Millatt said Scotline Ltd will be using a different stevedoring company in the future and that all main customers had been notified of the developments.
