Avebury, which specialises in affordable housing, will act as both construction manager and cost consultant for the BoKlok flats and homes being built in Gateshead.
The timber-framed homes are designed to be space-saving and easy to personalise, as well as affordable.
Aimed primarily at households earning between £15,000-35,000 a year, 90 properties will form the first BoKlok development in Gateshead, and will be built by BoKlok’s UK partner Live Smart @ Home, part of the Home Group.
Flats will be priced at under £100,000 with three-bedroom houses for less than £150,000. Currently, around 800 homes are sold in Sweden each year.
Rod MacGillivray, managing director of Avebury, said it was an exciting scheme to be part of.
“BoKlok was created as a housing solution for first-time buyers, with good design a quality finish and creating a sense of home will still remaining affordable,” said Mr MacGillivray.
He said construction was expected to begin in the middle of 2007, with the first homes being delivered before Christmas.
“This is a very important project for Avebury, tackling the lack of affordable quality housing in the UK and we are delighted to be involved,” he said.
