A dispute between Aboriginal communities has threatened the future of an A$800m timber plantation project in north-western Australia.
Tropical Timber Plantation’s 1,500ha plan to grow sandalwood, teak and rosewood at Beagle Bay has been halted because of arguments within a Kimberley Aboriginal community.
The company has started legal action in the Supreme Court to kick-start the project and has asked the state government to intervene.
If the dispute is not resolved, the company says it will look at other sites.
