More forest plantations must be planted in Australia if it is to reach its three million ha goal by 2020, according to the Bureau of Rural Science.
The country currently has 1.6 million ha of forest plantation which produce around 70% of its timber.
However, the Bureau believes that while there has been a decline in planting in recent years, there is still time to catch up to reach the target.
