Offers of help from industry have flooded in to TRADA Technology Ltd since the announcement of a £150,000 DTI-sponsored project to research the effectiveness of stain blocking primers for wood joinery.

Companies have pledged technical and laboratory support and case study opportunities which TRADA Technology said will be invaluable in the information gathering phase of the project.

Peter Kaczmar, TRADA Technology’s coatings and treatments specialist, said the project, backed by the Partners in Innovation programme, arose from the growing problem of discolouration and staining of light coloured coatings on wood joinery.

The research will pay particular attention to water borne coatings and the results will be published in two documents – a product specification guide and a best practice guide.

Project partners are TRADA Technology Ltd, TRADA, Teknos (UK) Ltd, Akzo Nobel Woodcare, Becker Acroma Ltd, Ronseal Trade Granwax Products Ltd, Valtti Speicalist Paints and Michael Abbott.
