Swedish forestry giant AssiDomän has reported almost double profits in the first half of 2001.

The increase, compared with January-June 2000, is mainly due to the sale of the firm’s corrugated and containerboard division to Dutch company Kappa.

Profits after financial items were SKr2.49bn compared with SKr1.31bn for the same period in 2000.

Its timber sales in the second quarter rose by SKr22m to SKr623m from SKr585m in the first quarter, with operating profits of SKr11m compared with SKr2m the previous quarter.

However, half-year profits of SKr13m were a decrease of SKr14m against the same period last year.

The company said the market remained ‘uncertain’, with falling prices for red and whitewood products.
