Police have confirmed the fire was arson and are appealing for help to trace the culprits.

Somerset-based Roundhomes UK Ltd, which built the timber frame structure as an offshoot to its main roundhouse home and leisure cabin business, had been hoping to attract high-profile support for the likes of Bono and Bob Geldof for its new venture.

Roundhomes UK director David Evans said he had already talked with neighbour and Glastonbury music festival founder Michael Eavis to gain help in promoting the concept. “Someone came along and decided to torch it. It was deliberatey done.”

Mr Evans said the round shape of the structure was particularly suited to resisting hurricane-force winds.

He said he may build another prototype at a different location.
