Police are investigating an arson attack on a joinery near Shrewsbury which caused up to £400,000 damage.

A quantity of timber is thought to have been deliberately set alight outside Niblett Bespoke Joinery near Hanwood during the night on August 1 before spreading to the building.

Extensive damage was caused to the building, including the roof and machinery inside.

“The fire is being treated as arson and we are appealing for any information which might assist the investigation,” said a West Mercia Police spokesperson.

Niblett, situated alongside the main A488 Shrewsbury to Bishop’s Castle road, employs 10 people and produces individually designed and handcrafted pieces, kitchens, windows, doors, stairs and interior furniture.

It works with larch, hemlock, Douglas fir, oak, sapele and iroko.
