The facility is a one-stop shop housing softwoods, hardwoods, sheet materials, joinery products, laminates, worktops, building products, hardware and decking. There is a mill on site to provide bespoke timber machining and a treatment plant.

“The opening of the new depot is a key milestone in Arnold Laver‘s history and follows months of planning and consultation to ensure that our new site is one of the most technologically and environmentally advanced in the industry,” said managing director Andrew Laver.

“We are delighted to commit our long-term future to South Tyneside. The move to Hebburn forms part of our national expansion plans and the investment made at the new depot will allow us to improve the service we offer to our customers as well as bring huge regeneration benefits to the area.”

The new depot was constructed by North Midland Building Ltd and the original construction period was expected to be 20 weeks.

“However,” said Brian Evans, chairman of North Midland Building, “we were aware that any reduction in the programme would be of great benefit to Arnold Laver, allowing them to train staff prior to the opening and possibly even to open earlier than planned.

“As such, we made a tremendous effort to programme the works as efficiently as possible and were delighted to hand over the completed site in 14 weeks, almost six weeks earlier than anticipated.”
